It all too easy to be blinded by the super low prices of budget multifunction printers, but you need to be aware that the majority all them are not so cheap when it comes to running them on replacement printer cartridges. The Epson Stylus SX218 is a budget multifunction printer with a cheap price tag and there are affordable Epson SX218 ink cartridges available, but they don’t come in the form of genuine Epson ink cartridges which cost £30 a set but in the compatibles at an amazing £15 a set. A lot people turn up their noses at compatibles because they buy into the propaganda produced by the printer manufactures in order to protect their profit margins. The fact of the matter is compatible cost half the price and they print just as many pages as the originals. The SX218 has a wide range of functions which make it a very versatile device offering not just printing but scanning and copying too. It also has a built in memory card reader which enables printing directly from a variety of memory cards including Compact Flash, SD and Memory Stick Pro. The SX218 most impressive feature is it printing quality, printing on a range of different types of media with great result even time. With a class leading resolution of 5760 x 1440dpi the SX218 is capable of printing photos equal to that produced by a photo lab. The SX218 only has one weakness and that’s it’s printing speed of 4ppm (pages per minute) which is slower than most of its competitors but this not enough to stop it being overall a better printer.
